Duprat worked as a social republican on a large number of newspapers and magazines and created several bodies himself, all of which were short-lived. He played a role in the February Revolution of 1848, but was banished in 1851 for republican views of him. Duprat was elected to the National Assembly in 1871 and was editor of the newspaper Le peuple souverain in 1871-1872. In 1883 he became a French envoy in Chile.
