Mario Florián Díaz was a Peruvian poet and professor. Representative of nativist poetry, he has left an extensive work considered by many critics as the most authentic poetic expression of the Andean man. He was also a narrator, essayist and historian. In 1940 he won the university floral games, corresponding to free themes, with his poems Tono de fauna. During those years he was linked to the literary group with an Aprista orientation and dedicated to making poetry of a social nature: "Los Poetas del Pueblo".

His literary work was recognized and deserved the following awards:

  • José Santos Chocano National Poetry Award (1944), for his collection of poems Urpi (Paloma in Quechua), where he already reached poetic maturity, becoming known in the literary world.
  • National Novel Award (1957), for his work Los mitimaes.
  • National Prize for Magisterial Floral Games (1960).
  • National Literature Award (1975-1976), which he shared with Luis Alberto Sánchez and Emilio Adolfo Westphalen.
