- Édouard René Lefebvre de Laboulaye (Paris, January 18, 1811-Paris, May 25, 1883), known in Spanish-speaking countries as Eduardo Laboulaye, was a French jurist and politician. He was a deputy and later a permanent senator of the French Third Republic. He is known for being the inspiration for the idea of offering a statue that would represent "Liberty" to the United States: the Statue of Liberty.
